- A Midsummertights Dream
A video with luminous green word captions coming and going, accompanied by some strange mixed up tootling jazz, synthesiser and dub-beats… What this all about?
By the end it all comes (slightly) clear. It’s a competition. A (sort of) talent competition. But if you have a smooth polished professional conventional performance likely to have X-Factor judges singing your praises, don’t bother. This competition is not for you!
Award winning children’s author Louise Rennison (author of ‘Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging’ is looking for the wackiest, maddest amateur dramatics performance from any solo acts or with the help of friends, family, pets…it’s up to you. Include props or set your performance to music. Just make a short video of your performance, giving it your best or worst shot- whatever feels right!
Were you born to sing in a different key from the rest of the planet? Would your A Midsummer Night’s Dream have Shakespeare spinning in his grave? Do you think you can dance? Really dance, with tappy-tap shoes on? Are you funnier than Matilda the bulldog with her cutesy pink tutu on?
Why do this? Because the entry that raises the most laughs will be in for a real treat:
• An experience day at the Sylvia Young Theatre School for you and a friend.
• Tickets to ‘Wicked!’ at the Apollo Theatre
• A night in a swanky hotel, all expenses paid!

The reaction to the video has been universally good- it seems there are a lot of people out there anxious to show their talent, or lack of it! Example:
“Hey, I think I have got all the “things” you are looking for this show, talent, madness, desire, ambition, looks and dedication. So I am entering it right away, let’s see what this show is all about. But looks really really cool.. Cheers!!”
Are you going to stand there on the touchlines like a wilting wallflower, or let your bizarre blossom bloom and shower the judges with your originality?!!
And just in case you are not up on those prizes-
The Sylvia Young Theatre School is a world-renowned school where you can learn new skills or hone existing ones in the fields of Drama, singing, street dance and jazz.
Wicked! …the hit Broadway musical about the untold story of the witches of Oz.
And don’t forget the all-expenses swanky Hotel!
