Here’s another video in the “versus Xperia Play” series, where the plot is as simple as this: Can you distract someone from playing a game on the Xperia Play?

Once again we have the serious looking white-coated bespectacled boffin-nerd doing the voice over in English, with French subtitles (porqoui?) He gives the Xperia Play to a young lad and lets him get into a game… It’s Dead Space.

The lad comments on the graphics and the sound, and is clearly hooked- time to unleash the distraction! You’ll have to watch the video (link below) to get the full effect and humour, but it involves a bearded man with a ghetto-blaster and a precocious kid with dodgy trousers and an attitude!

This video is every bit as good as the Leaf Blower versus Xperia Play video. Judging by the comments people are leaving, it’s clear that the videos are connecting. Exmples are “Come to the UK and try distrcting me from my Xperia” and “great advert for a great phone”.

It’s clear that this series of videos are aimed at the gamer, because there’s only a passing reference to the fact that the Xperia Play is a phone, video, camera, internet link etc etc. As we know, gamers’ attention spans can be as short-lived as a snowflake in an oven, and as ephemeral as a butterfly in Winter. So the aim is to interest and intrigue, and keep the viewer watching for the full two minutes. The video does that, and ends nicely with all three protagonists in a sort of bemused stand-off.

The Xperia Play is of course the centre of attention, but thankfully you are not bombarded with facts, figures and features about the handset. That keeps the video rolling along smoothly, and of course you can you look up the specs afterwards if you want to get the detail.

As can be seen from the video, the Xperia Play fits snugly into the hands, and the controls are intuitive and quickly become and extension of your eyes and ears as you’re drawn into the games. It’s also got a nice weight and feel to it, creating a feeling of a solid build. The slide mechanism the switches it from Phone to Play also has a nice fluid feel to it.

It’s clear from the comments and reviews that the emphasis on Play on this Xperia Play phone is well-judged, and that Sony Ericsson have a clear view of who this phone is aimed at. The series of videos matches that market well, and by word of mouth, and YouTube sharing, the Xperia Play is already reaching out to many people worldwide.

I wonder will there be any video in the series where the Xperia Play gamer is distracted? We’ll have to wait and see!
