Record Breaker: The World’s Largest Chocolate Coin!

has set a Guinness World Record for the world’s biggest chocolate coin.

The well-known online and High Street retailer unveiled the coin – which weighs in at 271kg and measures 3.6m x 3.6m – to help launch its Christmas promotion of free £200 Christmas Gift Cards with contract and mobile phone purchases.

It’s often been the case that gold coins are minted to celebrate special occasions, but Carphone Warehouse decided to be different and make a record-breaking edible chocolate gold coin. If hung up for Christmas, this would most definitely snap all but the biggest and most sturdy Christmas tree!

Weighing in at 276kg, the equivalent of 5,081 bars of conventional chocolate, the coin was made by melting the Belgium chocolate at 45 degrees and took over 80 hours and 10 people to assemble in London’s Westfield Shopping Centre in Shepherd’s Bush. Once created it was duly checked and confirmed by Guinness that the creation has set a Guinness World Record for the world’s biggest chocolate coin.

Planned, produced and presented to celebrate the launch of their Christmas gift cards, Carphone Warehouse commissioned the creation of the mega-chocolate coin. Carphone Warehouse’s UK managing director Matt Stringer said: “Chocolate coins are traditional stocking fillers.”But I don’t think we’d find a stocking big enough to fit our record breaking coin! “It’s pretty incredible to see a chocolate coin this huge, so much so that Guinness World Records opened up a new category for us.”

So are we a nation of chocoholics or shopaholics? With the purchase of selected mobile phones and tariffs, Carphone Warehouse will give away a gift card valued at up to £200 absolutely free. It’s now available in all Carphone Warehouse stores. The gift cards can be used at a wide range of high street retailers which will help make this year’s seasonal shopping easier than ever. Stores include Sainsbury’s, NEXT, Debenhams and Toys R Us. That means you can have contributions towards your presents for the other half, the kids, the rest of the family, and for food and drink for the Christmas dining table.

The free gift cards, valued at £50, £100, £159 and £200 are available on a selected range of tariffs and mobile phones, including many of the must-have phones, such as HTC Wildfire S, BlackBerry 9300, Nokia 1800, Samsung Galaxy Apollo and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini.
