Songstress Lily Allen has announced that she is pregnant, on the day of her wedding
to Sam Cooper.
The pop star tied the knot in an intimate country wedding yesterday, with less than
100 close family members and friends present.
Allen was clearly displaying a bump under her empire-line wedding dress and the
pregnancy was later confirmed by her new husband at the wedding breakfast. The
news comes after the singer lost her second baby in November, when six months
pregnant.
Mme Manivet, the Paris-based designer of Allen’s wedding dress, said: ‘It’s beautiful
that she is pregnant, and I am very happy for her. She is very happy about that – it is
something wonderful.’
The vintage-inspired dress consisted of an underdress covered by a second, lace
dress, reminiscent of both the 1970s and 1990s. The singer chose a 1920s full-length
veil with floral detailing. Manivet added:
‘You can see of course the little stomach – it looked very cute with the dress. For me,
and for her too, when you’re pregnant you want to show that, but also be respectful,
so the dress was perfect for her for that moment.
‘She really believed in me and trusted me completely. She is a girl like me, and we
understand each other very easily. She was in love with the dress, and she loves
vintage.’
With its sweetheart neckline and long lace sleeves, the dress echoed that worn by
the Duchess of Cambridge for her wedding.
Amongst the bridesmaids was T4 presenter Miquita Oliver, a childhood friend of
Allen, who wore a peach dress.
The newly-weds paid for extra policing during the wedding to control the large
number of photographers capturing arrivals to the country church. Two roads, five
footpaths and three bridleways were also closed in Cranham, Gloucestershire ahead
of Allen’s big day.
