Oscar winning actress Natalie Portman has given birth to a baby boy and become a mother for the first time. The young star is engaged to French choreographer Benjamin Millepied.
The couple met on the set of Darren Aronofsky’s acclaimed film ‘Black Swan’, which follows a troubled ballet dancer as she struggles to find her darker side.
Natalie and Benjamin were thrilled to announce the pregnancy, but the actress recently revealed that they had yet to buy anything for the baby before his arrival. Natalie linked this back to her Jewish upbringing:
She said: ‘I think it’s a Jewish thing to be kind of superstitious. You don’t do any of the baby stuff before the baby arrives.’
The 30-year-old star did makes some changes during her pregnancy, however, the most significant of which was giving up veganism. Natalie has been a vegetarian since she was eight, and then stopped eating all animal products entirely in 2009. Since falling pregnant the slender actress has re-introduced dairy to her diet.
She said: ‘I actually went back to being vegetarian when I became pregnant, just because I felt like I wanted that stuff.
‘I was listening to my body to have eggs and dairy and that sort of stuff. I know there are people who do stay vegan, but I think you have to just be careful, watch your iron levels and your B12 levels and supplement those if there are things you might be low in your diet.’
Natalie has also paid tribute to parents throughout her pregnancy, saying she wished to apply the same upbringing to her own child.
She said: ‘If I am a shadow as good a parent, an echo, then I will be the best in the world, so thank you.’
