Amanda Seyfried takes the lead in a dark and sinister retelling of Little Red Riding
Hood, but confesses that she was actually terrified of fairytales as a child.

The Mean Girls and Mamma Mia! star plays Valerie in Red Riding Hood, which is
directed by Twilight’s Catherine Hardwicke. The film centres on a small village, which
is forced to look inwards and question its loved ones when a werewolf murders
Valerie’s sister.

This new adaptation of Red Riding Hood stars Gary Oldman as the werewolf hunter
hired to find the killer and Julie Christie as Valerie’s grandmother.

The film also features a love triangle, with Valerie’s parents urging her to marry the
wealthy Max Irons, whilst she has actually fallen for a handsome outsider, played by
Shiloh Fernandez.

Last night Seyfried joined her co-stars on the red carpet at a special screening at the
Empire in London’s Leicester Square, where she revealed: ‘The original tale is pretty
scary. I couldn’t deal with that when I was young.’

‘I was pretty sensitive as a child and I stayed away from all those fairy tales ’cause
they were all set in the dark forest somewhere far away.’

With Hardwicke at the helm and the film including werewolf and love triangle
elements, critics are already comparing it to the wildly popular Twilight series.

Seyfried commented on the similarities: ‘There are always going to be comparisons.
If you put ‘From the director of Twilight’ on the poster, you’re screwed.

‘But at the same time Twilight was really successful in its own right and our movie is
different. So as long as people see it, they’ll know what it’s about.’
